The MMTTC is an outcome of the relaunch of the MMTTP by integrating the two earlier initiatives namely the Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT) Centres and UGC – Human Resource Development Centres (UGC-HRDCs). The MMTTC of Bharathidasan University is one of the earlier UGC-HRDCs, which were originally created as UGC – Academic Staff Colleges, established, on the basis of the recommendations of the National Policy on Education (1986).

Established in the year 1987 as one of the first 50 UGC – Academic Staff Colleges, the UGC – Human Resource Development Centre (UGC-HRDC) of Bharathidasan University has been playing an active role in providing the opportunities for the Higher Education teachers’ career development and professional growth. In the past thirty-sevenyears, the HRDC has carved a niche for itself by maintaining high standards in the conduct of the different professional development programmes for higher education teachers, research scholars and educational administrators and administrative staff.

The HRDC of Bharathidasan University got the distinction of being one of the top-rated HRDCs in the entire country viz., at the 6th rank at the national level, 3rd at the South-India level and 1st at the Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry regional level. As a premier centre of professional development of higher education teachers, the HRDC of Bharathidasan University has continuously catered to the in-service training needs of several thousand teachers and academic administrators. Programmes and Courses for the skill-enhancement of research scholars and administrative staff are also periodically conducted.
